Konami has announced a surprise release of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night today for both iOS and Android. The classic side-scrolling action game first released on the original PlayStation back in 1997 and has been ported to the PSP, Xbox 360 and PS4 since.

Now it has arrived for mobile devices and it's not going to break the bank either. You'll be able to experience Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for $2.99 or your local equivalent. It has brought a few changes with it when compared to the 1997 release, such as a new continue feature alongside achievements to earn as you slash your way through the castle.

There will also be controller support, which will probably make the game far more appealing to folks who aren't overly familiar with - or fond of - using virtual d-pads and buttons. However, that's still an option if you'd rather play Symphony of the Night this way too, as you can see in the screenshots found within this article.

The games see you playing as Alucard, the son of Dracula, who has access to a wide array of weapons and abilities to help battle against the plethora of monsters that lurk within the castle walls. He can also be levelled up with experience gained through slaying numerous foes.

The release was timed to coincide with the arrival of Season 3 of the Castlevania Netflix series which drops tomorrow, 5th March. Games on your phone and your Netflix subscription aren't the only two places you can enjoy some Castlevania goodness either, you can also listen to the original Symphony of the Night soundtrack over on Spotify as well as other tracks from the series.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is available now over on the App Store and Google Play. It's a premium title that costs $2.99.
Enjoy action games? Here are 25 of the best available on Androidlatinamericasport.com&#;

If you were looking for a great space sim on mobile in the early days of the App Store, you had to check out Galaxy on Fire 2, a portable version of Elite that really punched above its wait. Naturally its sequel, Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore, was hotly anticipated.

    He said Captain Jim was the only one who could spin that old yarn now."
This week's Apple Arcade game is perhaps one of the service's most interesting yet. It's called Scrappers, and it comes to us from Q-Games, creator of the excellent PixelJunk series. What's it about? Well, it's about bin men.

It's described as a "hyper-stylised futuristic waste-management beat 'em up", which, c'mon, has to be one of the best concepts for a video game in some time. Bin men are unsung heroes in reality, but in Scrappers' dystopian future, they're seldom welcomed by the locals.

In a world now ruled by robots, old bits of rubbish have naturally spiked in value. Violent gangs have now grasped the opportunity to acquire and sell that which the bin men aim to collect, hence why you'll so often be met with aggressive robot henchmen.

You can go it alone or team up with others to keep the streets clean, and you may need some extra help when it comes to the game's tricky boss fights. By the looks of things, it could prove to be a fairly stressful experience for some, what with its constantly escalating action and onslaught of enemies.

You might remember that Q-Games was also behind one of last year's Apple Arcade releases, Frogger in Toy Town. As I say, I'm a big fan of the PixelJunk series, and the team's games are typically super polished and distinct.

Purely based on the screenshots and brief gameplay I've seen, I really love Scrappers' sense of style and unique premise, so I'll definitely be checking it out when it launches for Apple Arcade later today. Here's a link to the game's store page.

In other Apple Arcade news, updates for Lego Brawls, Stranded Sails, and Secret Oops! are all set to arrive today. Next week's Apple Arcade game is the 3D puzzler A Fold Apart.
Searching for more quality action games? Here are 25 of the best for iPhone and iPad
Retro fans, Le Parker Sous Chef Extraordinaire is everything you could want in a gorgeous package.

Concentrating on the platforming and making it really solid was Play Pretend's main goal and it shows in the game's first trailer:
