Outcast Odyssey, for those of you who haven't heard of or played it, is a rather interesting iPhone, iPad, and soon-to-be Android title from developers Magic Pixel Games and Bandai Namco Games America.

It's interesting because it takes the best features of dungeon crawler games and mashes them together with the best features of the card battler genre to create a fast-paced adventure title that's set in a fantasy world full of monsters and magic.

Your aim in Outcast Odyssey is to explore the colourful world around you, collecting treasures and uncovering monsters along the way.

The monsters you encounter can be defeated in RPG-like battles with the 'explosive' powers of the hundreds of hand-drawn (by acclaimed artists like Chuck Pires and Warren Louw) cards you can collect.

Naturally, you can enhance and even evolve your cards as you progress through the game in order to make them more powerful.
Between the assumptions and the rumours it looks like Nintendo has pulled it out of the bag as Super Mario Run hits 40 million downloads in under a week.

#SuperMarioRun has reached 40 million downloads worldwide in just 4 days! Thanks for playing, everyone! pic.twitter.com/GwMcUZwdeW— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) December 21, 2016 Confirmed by Nintendo America in a tweet yesterday, the fluid autorunner no doubt holds the record for fastest downloaded app - and it's not even out on Android yet.

Though the official earnings haven't been released as of yet, Super Mario Run was the highest grossing app on the iPhone after less than a day, and on the iPad the day after that. Of course, once it was all done and dusted the game dropped from its top position but the impressive figures remained.

It's still questionable as to SMR's longevity considering they're not planning on bringing content updates (or paid content updates at the very least) to the game. However this is Nintendo we're talking about, with a selection of mobile games in development and on the way in 2017, it's not like they'll struggle too much financially.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the future brings for Nintendo on the mobile scene.

Could SEGA be about to reinvent mobile gaming as we know it with a new streaming service called SEGA Forever? Or is it just a new line of aftershave which smells a bit like hedgehog?

While we don't discover the answer to this question, we do get to chat to Crescent Moon's Josh Presseisen about his company's new space shooter Infinity Subdivision, and explore the free-to-play landscape on mobile.

Plus: reviews of PES 2017, Pokemon: Magicarp Jump, Iron Blade, Thumper, and more.
Download episode 396:MP3iTunes
